Swiss Federal Statistical Office Releases Retail Sales Report
This article is specifically for traders who:
- Trade the News
- Trade USD/CHF
- Trade Overnight
If you do any or all of these types of trades, here’s a trade for you. Early in the morning on Friday, January 16, 2015, at 3:15 a.m. ET, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office will release the Retail Sales Report. This report is inflation-adjusted and measures the change in the total value of change in sales at the retail level. Because of this, it is a primary indicator of consumer spending, which in turn explains the overall economic activity of the country.
Last month the report came out at 0.3 percent. This month is forecast to be 1.1 percent. If the number is higher than expected when it is released, it should be regarded as positive or bullish for the CHF side of your trade. On the other hand, if it comes out lower than expected, that should be taken as negative or bearish for the CHF.
An overnight trade that you could look at placing would be an Iron Condor using Nadex Spreads on the USD/CHF. When placing an Iron Condor you want to buy a lower spread and sell an upper spread making sure that the ceiling of the lower one is equal to the floor of the upper one. Both spreads need to have the same expiration time. This is sometimes hard to do and may take some patience in finding the right spread to meet your criteria.
If you want to trade this overnight, you can enter as early as 11:00 p.m. ET using the 7:00 a.m. expiration time. The minimum profit potential that you are looking for is $30.
