Why I Switched My Engagement Ring Insurance to BriteCo from Jeweler's Mutual

Lee Goldberg shares his journey to find the best jewelry insurance and how it led to him discovering BriteCo and switching from his previous jewelry insurance provider.

First-Time Jewelry Buyer

I made my first big jewelry purchase in 2012 when I bought my wife’s engagement ring from a diamond dealer that I knew through work. While talking with my diamond guy, I asked for recommendations for engagement ring insurance. He suggested Jeweler’s Mutual. As a century-old provider of jewelry insurance, he thought it was a solid choice where I could find reliable coverage.

An Antiquated Process

The engagement ring was a significant investment, so I was terrified that something would happen to it as I carried it home through the subway and streets of New York City after the destruction of Hurricane Sandy. As soon as I arrived home, I jumped online to get it insured. Although the Jeweler’s Mutual platform felt like something out of the late 1990s. I found a policy option I liked and went through an archaic email process to send documentation and obtain coverage.

Reevaluating My Insurance Providers

Over the years, I have bought my wife additional jewelry pieces from high-end department stores and specialty pieces from my diamond dealer. I’d say I added about five to six milestone pieces to my Jeweler’s Mutual policy. Each time I had to go through a tedious email process to add the pieces and follow website redirects that left me feeling like maybe their cybersecurity wasn’t as tight as it should be.

When a potential HVAC claim led me to reevaluate my homeowners’ insurance policy, I began researching new options for my car insurance and jewelry insurance as well. I ended up switching my homeowners and car insurance policies and saving quite a bit of money, so I also decided to look elsewhere for jewelry insurance. That’s when I found BriteCo

BriteCo: A Great First Impression

From the start, I was impressed with BriteCo’s modern digital approach and user-friendly website. BriteCo just feels like it belongs in the digital age, almost like a technology company that happens to provide reliable jewelry insurance. Overall, my experience with BriteCo felt very modern and reliable. Jeweler’s Mutual felt a bit outdated, but BriteCo’s sleek, easy-to-navigate website and quick, convenient signup process made them the best choice for me.

I really enjoy that BriteCo’s system is set up to make it almost impossible to get confused when navigating the website. Their prompts guide you through the process, and they even have an app where you can upload your documentation. Compared to the Jeweler’s Mutual website, which seems stuck in the early days of the internet, BriteCo shines.

How Easy Is Signing Up With BriteCo?

Signing up for BriteCo was super easy. Within two minutes of clicking the “Check Your Price” button, I received a quote for jewelry coverage. All I had to do was input basic information about my pieces. After answering a few standard insurance questions, I then I uploaded pictures of my pieces and their appraisal information, and within an hour, I received my policy information.

I appreciate that during the signup process, BriteCo under-promised and over-delivered. For example, one email let me know it may take a day or two to review due to the bigger schedule; however, the task was completed within an hour, making me feel like they are efficient and communicate effectively.

Why BriteCo Beat Jeweler’s Mutual

There were several areas where BriteCo blew Jeweler’s Mutual out of the water. The two most significant factors are BriteCo’s modern technological approach and its prices.

With BriteCo, I’m paying about $100 per month, whereas, with Jeweler’s Mutual, I was paying $159. That means I’m saving roughly $60 per month (almost 40% cheaper) for the same coverage. I also like that BriteCo lets me make monthly payments rather than quarterly because it’s easier to budget.

I do my research when making decisions and was impressed by their great Google reviews and A+ rated coverage. It was clear that they took customer service and protection very seriously.

Getting the Word Out About BriteCo

I’ve returned to my diamond guy a few times since switching to BriteCo. I made sure to let him know how happy and impressed I’ve been with the service and coverage BriteCo provides. I told him that he should be recommending BriteCo to all his customers so they can gain the same perks. He is definitely aware of BriteCo now, and I think he’ll be helping to spread the word about a better experience for his clients.
