- Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE:NSC) has agreed to join the Federal Railroad Administration's Confidential Close Call Reporting System (C3RS), along with its several rivals.
- With active participation in the C3RS Working Group that is part of the Department of Transportation's Railroad Safety Advisory Committee, and now being a part of the Federal Railroad Administration, Norfolk is building upon its own long-standing Close Call Experience Program.

- Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg asked the chief executives of the seven so-called Class 1 railroads, Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP), Norfolk Southern, BNSF Railway, CSX Corporation (NASDAQ:CSX), Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (NYSE:CP), Canadian National Railway Company (NYSE:CNI) and Kansas City Southern, to join the Federal Railroad Administration's close-call reporting system, WSJ reported.
