Parlays continue to be a popular betting option that combines multiple outcomes needed to cash a bet ticket. The increase in parlay betting and types of parlays has provided a boost for the sports betting sector.
One parlay with unlikely odds could win Thursday night when the National Football League hands out top player awards.
What Happened: With most eyes in the sports betting world fixated on Super Bowl LVIII and the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, bettor Martwon Weaver has his eyes set on the NFL Honors awards ceremony that precedes the big game.
Weaver placed a $5 bet with FanDuel, a unit of Flutter Entertainment plc FLUT, betting on the outcomes of five NFL awards earlier in the season.
The bet included the following selections and their odds at the time the bet was placed.
Lamar Jackson, MVP: +1500
CJ Stroud, Offensive Rookie of the Year: +700
Christian McCaffrey, Offensive Player of the Year: +1800
Myles Garrett, Defensive Player of the Year: +700
Jalen Carter, Defensive Rookie of the Year: +600
Odds for the awards now stand at the following:
Jackson: -20000
Stroud: -850
McCaffrey: -360
Garrett: -220
Carter: -180
All the selections made by Weaver are his favorites to win the respective awards with Jackson, Stroud and McCaffrey all having implied odds of 75% or better to take home the bet on awards. Garrett has around a 69% chance of winning and Carter has a 64% chance of winning according to betting odds.
The $5 bet pays out $680,960 if all five award predictions are right, posting a profit of $680,955 for Weaver. The bet cannot be cashed out as award parlays are typically not allowed to do this. The bet had around a 0.1% chance of hitting when placed.

Ready to Sell Parlay: Weaver is ready to cash out of the bet ahead of the awards ceremony if someone is willing to buy.
"I'm feeling good. But if we could sell it, that would be good also, so we can take the ‘if factor' out of it," Weaver told The New York Post.
Weaver remains confident the bet could hit, but he would like to be bought out ahead of the awards show at a market value. Projections list the market value at around $200,870, the Post said. Weaver said he would talk to interested parties "in the six figures."
Weaver, who is a commercial truck driver, has experienced financial hardships after he had a seizure while driving in 2022 and had a car accident. After making $3,000 a week, Weaver was left with no disability or health insurance benefits as an independent contractor after the accident.
The bettor is working with startup sports betting company WagerWire on trying to find a buyer for the ticket.
Late into the season, the bet looked like more of a reality with Carter listed at odds of -1000. A strong late showing by Houston Texans player Will Anderson and several media members saying they voted for Anderson lowered his odds in the race and made Carter less of a sure thing.
The bet could become one of the biggest in terms of unlikely odds ever hitting in FanDuel history. Weaver said he would start his own business if he is able to sell the ticket. A win would be "life-changing" for Weaver.
The NFL Honors awards show takes place Thursday, Feb. 8 at 9 p.m. ET and will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+, which are units of Paramount Global Inc PARAPARAA.
