Snapchat Continues To 'Re-Accommodate' Other Socials As New Teen Favorite

Facebook Inc FB remains the king of social media with its multiple properties that boast at least 1 billion users. But hiding behind that is a trend that may be of some concern for social media investors: Teens would rather not be on Facebook.

According to Statista, teens as a whole loved Facebook in 2013, pledged allegiance to Instagram in 2014 but have now moved on to Snap Inc SNAP. Based on Piper Jaffray's bi-annual "Taking Stock With Teens" survey, nearly 40 percent of teens say Snapchat is their favorite social media platform — nearly double the 11-percent response Facebook and Twitter Inc TWTR both received.

Facebook investors, fear not: The analysts survey also made it clear that teens use Facebook. According to the findings, more than 50 percent of teens use Facebook at least once a month; the same metric applies to Twitter's platform.

The Numbers

Thirty-nine (39) percent of teens said Snapchat is their favorite social media platform, which gives the disappearing message and video platform the unofficial title as the king of social media, at least among teens. This marks an improvement from 24 percent in 2016 and just 11 percent in 2015.

Instagram takes home second place with 23 percent of teens naming it their second favorite platform.
