Arrowhead, the developer of Helldivers 2, has refuted recent rumors claiming that Sony Group Corp. SONY is acquiring the studio.

Despite Sony Interactive Entertainment publishing Helldivers 2, Arrowhead remains an independent entity. Following the game's remarkable success on PlayStation 5 and PC, speculation emerged regarding Sony's purported acquisition of Arrowhead, IGN reported.

However, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt insists the studio will remain independent.

Responding to tweets spreading the acquisition rumor, Pilestedt emphasized that the accompanying imagery was outdated and indicated the rumor's inaccuracy. "This is the first I hear of this... And that's a good indication that it's fake. Also, very old logo."

Additionally, he clarified Arrowhead's ownership, saying: "We are not owned. We are independently owned!" Pilestedt further addressed the issue, saying, "I mean... We are owned, but only by the founders (including me) of the studio."

It's worth noting Sony recently announced significant layoffs affecting approximately 900 employees, including staff from various PlayStation studios.

Helldivers, released in 2015, marked a significant milestone for the studio, and its sequel has achieved considerable success since its launch, reportedly selling around three million copies and garnering praise from critics. The game's popularity continues to grow, with ongoing updates and positive reviews contributing to its acclaim.
