Nintendo Company Ltd NTDOY plans to continue supporting its aging Switch console with new games until at least the end of the 2025 financial year, which concludes in March 2025, according to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa.

"We are still working on software for the Switch for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025," Furukawa told Japanese publication Nikkei, translated by VGC.

Furukawa added that the company aims to maintain the momentum of existing titles like "Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" and the Super Mario Bros. Movie."

Nintendo has several upcoming Switch games in development, such as "Detective Pikachu Returns," "Super Mario Bros. Wonder," and more.

Nintendo's upcoming next-generation console, set for release in the second half of 2024, reportedly offers portability like the Nintendo Switch, features an LCD screen for cost-saving purposes, and includes a cartridge slot for physical games.

However, it is still uncertain whether this new console will be backward compatible with Nintendo Switch games, as Nintendo has not provided any official statements on the matter.

Despite a decline in Switch sales, Nintendo is not rushing to release a new console, focusing instead on bolstering demand for the Switch in its seventh year on the market.
