Microsoft Corp MSFT Xbox recently introduced an enforcement strike system as part of its ongoing efforts to promote responsible and respectful behavior within its gaming community.
"We are constantly improving our safety measures and bringing more systems and tools in place that empower players to respectfully interact with one another," Xbox said in a blog post.

"Everyone deserves a place to comfortably be themselves online, free from harassment and bullying," the company added.
Under this system, each enforcement issued to players is accompanied by a corresponding strike. The severity of these strikes is determined by the nature and gravity of the offense, and the strikes operate on a tiered suspension structure.
For example, accumulating two strikes results in a one-day suspension, while amassing four strikes leads to a seven-day suspension. Players that have a total of eight strikes will be suspended from messaging, parties and party chat, multiplayer and other social features for one year from the enforcement date.
Players can monitor their enforcement history, strikes and their overall impact on their standing within the Xbox network. This feature is designed to offer players a comprehensive view of the ramifications of their actions and repeated violations.
It's important to note that the new system does not replace existing content moderation measures but rather complements them by adding an extra layer of accountability.
Players are encouraged to report potential violations of the Community Standards. Reports undergo a thorough evaluation by the Xbox Safety Team before any enforcement actions are taken, emphasizing a fair and measured approach.
The new enforcement strike system also maintains a mechanism for players to appeal eligible enforcements. A successful appeal results in the removal of the corresponding strike.
Recent data indicates that a small fraction, less than 1%, of players experienced temporary suspensions in 2022, and among those, only about a third received a second suspension.
This suggests that the majority of players adjust their behavior following initial enforcement, indicating a learning curve in understanding the acceptable conduct outlined in the Xbox Community Standards.
