New York Giants Rescind Permission For Umenyiora Trade

In an about face, the New York Giants have rescinded the permission that was granted to DE Osi Umenyiora to seek a trade. Umenyiora has been unhappy with his current contract status, earnings $7.1 million over the next two years. Umenyiora claims that General Manager Jerry Reese offered a new contract to Umenyiora before the season ended last year, then the NFL lockout occurred and nothing happened. The Giants apparently have rescinded the offer because they could not find a trading partner willing to give up a first round draft pick for the defensive end. There were reports yesterday from the Baltimore Sun that the Giants had lowered their asking price for Umenyiora, to a second round draft choice.
