From Jon Favreau With 3D Dinosaurs To Alicia Keys' Jam Session: Apple's Vision Pro Originals Are Wild

Before releasing its first-generation mixed reality headset, Apple Inc.'s AAPL Apple TV+ has announced a series of exclusive, immersive originals produced with Apple Immersive Video, debuting on Vision Pro.

What Happened: The immersive originals come from the creative minds of well-known creators like Jon Favreau and Alicia Keys. The much-anticipated Apple Vision Pro, slated for a Feb. 2 release, will carry these originals on the Apple TV app.

The Apple Vision Pro will make these immersive originals available at no extra cost from the launch date.

Viewers will have access to an array of original series and films on the Apple Vision Pro, including “Prehistoric Planet Immersive,” a short film inspired by Favreau's acclaimed series “Prehistoric Planet,” and “Adventure,” an extreme sports series.

Moreover, “Alicia Keys: Rehearsal Room” will provide fans with an intimate look into the Grammy winner's creative process, while “Wild Life” promises an up-close view of the animal kingdom.

According to the company, the novel entertainment format, Apple Immersive Video, delivers 180-degree 3D 8K footage with Spatial Audio, promising viewers a truly immersive experience.

Sharing his enthusiasm, Favreau, the executive producer and filmmaker, stated that he's excited to experiment with storytelling using these innovative immersive tools.

"Ever since Apple introduced me to this new technology, I’ve been intrigued with the opportunity to explore storytelling using these innovative immersive tools," said Favreau. "I’m especially proud to be featured in the launch of this groundbreaking product."

Why It Matters: While the Vision Pro is expected to present a significant marketing challenge due to its high price and unwieldy design, the exclusive, immersive originals could serve as a key selling point.

In December last year, Mark Gurman reported that the production of the Vision Pro headset is in full-scale in China. Despite its hefty price tag of $3,499, the headset's impressive specifications and software have garnered attention from tech reviewers.

The device is set to compete directly with Meta Platform's Quest lineup in the virtual reality arena.
