Varian Medical Gets FDA Registration For Claymount Optica Collimators

Varian Medical Systems VAR received the FDA registration for its Claymount Optica 20 and Optica 40 collimators. According to the company, Claymount's Optica collimators were used to narrow the focus of X-ray beams in film-based, as well as digital radiography systems for enhancing image quality and minimizing dose to patients.

Varian Medical Systems said the manually operated Optica 20 collimator was meant to be used in human and veterinary radiography systems, which could be readily installed into fresh or existing imaging systems. The company added that motorized Optica 40 collimator was planned for integration into human radiography and fluoroscopy imaging systems.

The company indicated that when amalgamated with the X-ray system's control software, the Optica 40 could be used to remotely adjust the X-ray beam collimator. The company added that its Optica collimators feature a strong, lightweight design with a range of filtration options. That included the capability to curb patients from being exposed to useless low-energy X-ray spectrums and to meet requirements for pediatric imaging.

Varian's VP of sales and marketing, Carl LaCasce, said, "The launch of the Claymount Optica collimators is part of Varian's commitment to offer our customers one-stop shopping with a complete portfolio of X-ray components."
