2 New Stories GoPro Investors Should Be Aware Of

GoPro Inc GPRO was trading higher Thursday on little news, save a brief viral video from a camera accidentally dropped by a Swedish sky diver.

A police shooting in North Charleston, South Carolina, captured on a smartphone video, may have put investors in mind of GoPro's action cameras, but the company hasn't announced plans to target the law enforcement surveillance market.

TASER International, Inc. TASR gained more than 8 percent Thursday, while the much smaller Digital Ally, Inc. DGLY traded up about 11 percent.

GoPro picked up 2.75 percent to $44.52.

GoPro cameras aren't designed for long periods of continuous recording and the company doesn't currently offer data storage services required by police customers.

Separately, Xiaomi, in a demonstration of marketing muscle, sold 2 million smartphones in a 12-hour, online sales promotion event in China.

Privately-held Xiaomi launched a consumer action camera last month that sells for about half the cost of GoPro devices.
