Fox's 'Hidden Figures' Looks To Remain At The Top Of The Box Office Over MLK Weekend

Wells Fargo expects Twenty-First Century Fox Inc FOX’s "Hidden Figures" to retain the top spot in the holiday weekend, following strong reviews (93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and an additional 800 screens this weekend.

The brokerage estimates "Hidden Figures" to have collected $20 million in its fourth weekend along with Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (USA) LGF’s "Patriots Day" ($18 million in its debut), Walt Disney Co DIS’s "Rogue One" ($13 million in its fifth weekend).

There are three new films releasing this MLK weekend – "The Bye Bye Man," Viacom, Inc. VIAB’s "Monster Trucks," and Open Road’s "Sleepless." Time Warner Inc TWX’s "Live By Night" are expanding to more than 1,000 screens.

Over the weekend, Wells Fargo projects "Patriots Day" to take in $18 million ($24 million over four days), "The Bye Bye Man" to grab $8 million ($10 million over four days). Both "Live By Night" and "Monster Trucks" are estimated to collect $7 million ($9 million over four days) and "Sleepless" to earn $5 million ($6 million over four days) this weekend.

“Over the course of a typical run, we expect Patriots Day to earn $55MM, The Bye Bye Man to collect $23MM, both Live By Night and Monster Trucks to grab $25MM, and Sleepless to take in $15MM,” analyst Marci Ryvicker wrote in a note.
