In a report released yesterday, Oppenheimer commented on technology companies Google
GOOG
and Taiwan Semiconductor
TSM
. On Google Oppenheimer writes, “Google has slowed down its process for licensing Android 3.0 tablet hardware vendors due to some operational problems and a lack of applications for tablet PCs. As a result, only a small number of vendors, including Asustek, Acer and Motorola Mobility have launched Android 3.0 tablet PCs. The release of Android 3.1, officially set in June, will encourage more hardware vendors to venture into the Android 3.1 table segment.” On Taiwan Semiconductor Oppenheimer writes, “Foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. has announced that it has decided to join Sematech, the international consortium of semiconductor manufacturers, as a core member. TSMC has long been a core member at a rival research collaboration, hosted by IMEC where it works with most of the world's leading semiconductor companies. The company has now opted to also join Sematech. TSM said it would collaborate on semiconductor research and development for IC process technologies for the 20-nm generation and beyond, including extreme UV lithography, 3-D interconnects, metrology, novel materials and device structures, and to develop critical infrastructure vital for next-generation manufacturing.” Oppenheimer currently has an Outperform rating on Google and does not rate TSM. Shares of Google closed at $529.55 Friday, down from $534.51 at the opening bell. Shares of TSM closed Friday at $13.59, down $0.24 from the opening bell.
