Zhejiang, China-based electric vehicle (EV) company Zeekr Intelligent Tech (NYSE:ZK) plans to launch advanced driver-assistance capabilities for free to local customers.

Zeekr CEO Andy An shared this development ahead of a launch event today, according to CNBC.

The system will enable cars to function almost autonomously, provided that drivers maintain their hands on the steering wheel and regulatory approval is granted in most cities across China.

Zeekr intends to utilize Nvidia Corp‘s (NASDAQ:NVDA) Orin X chips and lidar technology for its system with plans to deploy more advanced chips and lidar sensors.

Nvidia expects its automotive vertical business to grow to about $5 billion in 2026 from $4 billion expected this year.

Meanwhile, EV peer BYD Co.(OTC:BYDDY) launched smart driving features on vehicles priced as low as $10,000.

BYD has began sales of 21 models equipped with the technology, known as "God's Eye".

Lidar technology will play a crucial role in these systems. That’s particularly true for vehicles utilizing navigation on autopilot (NOA) for both city and highway driving.

In 2024, China’s vehicles had over 1.5 million lidar units installed. That’s more than double the amount from 2023.

EV-major Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is rolling out its own driving assistance features for its vehicles on city streets in China.

Zeekr will first introduce a free version with advanced driver assistance to a select group of users. The feature will become publicly available in April.

Zeekr sold 222,123 EVs in 2024. That’s an increase of 87% year-on-year. For 2025, the company is now aiming for 320,000 sales.

Price Action: ZK shares traded lower by 2.76% at $29.25 at last check Tuesday.
