Ever since AT&T announced that it plans to acquire T-Mobile for $39 billion, the United States government has received both for and against merger requests. To show how against they are of the merger, a group of lawyers launched FightTheMerger.com, a website that attempts to have people against the merger join a class action lawsuit.

The lawyers claim that, current customers of AT&T that join the lawsuit may be entitled to $10,000 if successful. The website also lists some reasons of why the AT&T + T-Mobile merger should not happen (and it's not something we haven't heard already):

  • If this deal goes through, it would give AT&T and Verizon Wireless a combined 80% market share
  • Will make prices go up
  • Would stop innovation and new products
  • AT&T's claim that the deal would improve its network coverage makes "no sense"

Turning back the clock to the Ma Bell monopoly era will allow AT&T and Verizon to dictate what type of phone you can use, how you can use it, and what you will pay. It will destroy competition, leading to higher prices and worse service.

Recent rumors seem to claim that a decision for the deal will be made as early as next year. Are you for or against the AT&T + T-Mobile merger?
