March 2011 Web browser stats are in: IE down again, Firefox and Chrome up

It's important to note that Internet Explorer 9, which was released last month, actually saw a gain of 0.05% market share. A majority of IE's market share loss for the past month came from previous versions, namely IE 8. Google's Chrome Web browser saw a 0.64% market share increase, giving it a total of 11.57%. Meanwhile, Apple's Safari went from 6.36% to 6.61% (gain of 0.25%) and Opera saw no change, remaining at 2.15% market share.

March seemed to be the battle of the Web browsers – Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9 to the public after a year of testing. Shortly after releasing IE 9, Microsoft revealed that their newest Web browser had been downloaded 2.35 million times in its first 24 hours of availability. Also late in the month, Mozilla released Firefox 4, which saw nearly 7.1 million downloads in its first 24 hours of availability. Finally, Google released Chrome 10 to the public last month.
