Stock Market Dips, But Many Leaders Rise

Stocks showed modest losses Tuesday in the wake of minutes from the latest meeting of the Federal Reserve's policymakers. But many market leaders braved the storm by pushing higher. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.5%, the S&P 500 0.4% and the Nasdaq 0.2%. The final hour of trade saw the averages pare slightly deeper losses: 1% for the S&P 500 and the Dow, 0.7% for the Nasdaq. Volume rose across the board, according to early readings.
