Adobe Releases Final Update to Flash Player on Mobile Devices

Earlier this week, Adobe announced that it was killing off Flash Player for mobile devices such as Android smartphones and tablets and the BlackBerry PlayBook. The news came as a surprise to most people, but Adobe did promise one last feature update to Flash Player and yesterday, that update was released to the public.

Adobe Flash Player 11.1 for mobile devices brings security enhancements and fixes, addressing memory corruption and stack overflow. Version 11.1 will be the final feature-based update for mobile devices, but it will not be the final security update. Adobe plans to continue to provide security updates for Flash Player, but has not provided much information on how it will do this and for how long.

Flash Player 11.1 can be downloaded from the Android Market. In a somewhat related note, the desktop version of Flash Player has also been updated to version 11.1.
