Gesture-Based Browsing Comes to iPad, But it's Far From a Kinect-Killer

But in the spirit of “me too!” competition (and oddball experimentation that may have no relevancy whatsoever), MoboTap has unleashed the Dolphin Browser HD for the iPad. What makes this a “high-def” browser? Absolutely nothing. But HD, like so many other terms in technology, is currently a buzzword so expect companies to continue using it. Dolphin Browser HD does, however, come with a unique feature: gesture-based controls. You can, for example, go back to your previous webpage by drawing a left arrow, or move forward by drawing a forward arrow. Of course, you could simply use Safari instead and tap the left and right arrows that appear on screen. But that would be logical, and who needs that? I must confess, however, that my cynicism toward this browser comes not from an inherent disdain for gesture-based controls but for the extreme disappointment brought on by Dolphin Browser HD's release. This is a browser that should have, by all accounts, brought a new and revolutionary control style to the iPad. Instead, it's just another browser that makes the Web slower and less intuitive. Via:
