Android Users Prefer Mobile Applications Over Mobile Websites

A new research study released Thursday from The Nielsen Company shows how Android users in the United States prefer using mobile applications over mobile optimized websites in their browser.

According to the new data from Nielsen Smartphone Analytics Android users spend an average of 56 minutes per day using their device interacting with applications and websites. Of all that time two-thirds is spent on applications built for their phone compared to one-third spend using the mobile web.

In another study released Thursday Nielsen breaks down the time spent in apps. The results revealed that of the hundreds of thousands of applications available for Android the top ten most used account for 43% of time spent in all the applications available. In addition, if you watch the pie chart and break it down to the top 50 applications in order of time spent then those applications account for over 60% of all time spent. The results show that more than half the time Android users spend on applications on their devices over 60% of the time is spent in only 50 apps.
