Frederick T. Baird, Robert C. Lind, and Howard W. Pifer III Join Cornerstone Research as Senior Advisors

Cornerstone Research, a leading provider of economic and financial consulting and expert testimony, is pleased to announce that Frederick T. Baird, Robert C. Lind, and Howard W. Pifer III have joined the firm as Senior Advisors in its Washington, DC, office.

Frederick Baird specializes in the development of electricity and energy markets and mathematical modeling related to network industries and competitive markets. He has managed and directed seminal developments in electricity markets in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Malaysia, and New Zealand, and was lead advisor to the Singapore government on the restructuring of its electricity and gas industries. He is an international arbitrator in electricity sector disputes and contractual claims, and served as an expert witness in the fallout of the California energy crisis. Mr. Baird is a former managing director of Putnam, Hayes & Bartlett, Inc. (PHB), an international economics and management consulting firm that specialized in energy and environmental issues and commercial litigation. He also served as a senior vice president of its successor firm, PHB Hagler Bailly. Prior to joining Cornerstone Research, Mr. Baird served as chief corporate development officer and executive vice president at Charles River Associates (CRA), where he also was a senior advisor and, from 2005 to 2007, Head of Europe and Middle East. Prior to establishing his own economic consulting firm that was acquired in 1996 by PHB, Mr. Baird was a professor of economics and operations research specializing in the use of mathematical modeling to develop markets’ trading products, ranging from electricity and gas to electronic switching capacity, timber, and fish.

Robert Lind is Professor Emeritus of Economics, Management, and Public Policy at the Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University. The focus of his research, teaching, and consulting has been on regulatory issues, public policy, antitrust and competition policy, and investment and productivity. Dr. Lind has consulted to a wide range of government agencies on public policy issues and has served as an expert witness in corporate litigation and international arbitration involving antitrust and competition, intellectual property, and damages analysis. He has testified before government regulators, courts, and international tribunals in the United States, Canada, and Europe on behalf of clients in the banking, energy, telecommunications, insurance, and high-technology industries. Dr. Lind has published widely, and between 1972 and 1996 he was among the top five percent of publishing economists cited in professional literature as determined by Who’s Who in Economics. Prior to joining Cornerstone Research, Dr. Lind was a partner and cofounder of Competition Economists Group, which provides economic and financial advice on competition, regulatory, and damages matters to clients in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. Dr. Lind also served as a senior consultant at CRA.

Howard Pifer advises companies in electricity and other energy and metals sectors on a wide range of economic, antitrust and competition, environmental, and financial issues. He specializes in the rigorous analyses of corporate strategies and public policy. He has provided expert testimony before federal and state courts; numerous domestic and international arbitration panels; both houses of the U.S. Congress; U.S. federal and state regulatory agencies; and executive agencies, legislative committees, and regulatory agencies in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Prior to joining Cornerstone Research, Dr. Pifer was a senior advisor at CRA. He was the founder, chief executive officer, and chairman of PHB, and board chairman of its successor firms, Hagler Bailly and PHB Hagler Bailly. Prior to founding PHB, he was a faculty member at Harvard Business School, where he taught courses in managerial economics, decision analysis, finance, computer-based systems, environmental analysis, and corporate planning.
