Paxen’s “GED Prep Xcelerator” Earns Prestigious Recognition from the Commission on Adult Basic Education

MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Paxen Learning, a premier provider of outcome-based educational and employability programs for at-risk learners, earned national recognition recently for its revolutionary GED Prep Xcelerator program.

The Xcelerator program received honorable mention in the category of “Outstanding Workplace Literacy Program” from the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE). Presented annually, the award honors organizations that consistently develop outstanding workplace literacy programs at the community, state, or national level.

In recognizing Xcelerator, COABE cited the program’s contributions to adult-basic education and literacy and its successes in improving the lives of thousands of military members and civilians who have participated in the program. Paxen partners with, and receives support from, a variety of government and community-based organizations to offer the program.

“It’s exciting and an honor to have GED Prep Xcelerator recognized by such an esteemed organization as the Commission on Adult Basic Education,” said Paxen CEO Herb Hilderley. “It’s a testament to the commitment and determination of our staff, who so profoundly and positively affect the lives of thousands of learners.”

Each year, thousands of learners use Paxen’s GED Prep Xcelerator to prepare for the General Education Development (GED) Tests in a fraction of the time of traditional programs. Offered in accelerated 1-, 2-, and 3-week courses, the Xcelerator program features skills-based instruction, ongoing assessment, and frequent monitoring of learners’ progress.

Paxen presently delivers GED Prep Xcelerator programs in Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina. In 2009, the program recorded a success rate approaching 95 percent across more than 2,300 learners. All told, more than 6,000 learners have received their GED credential through the program, now in its fifth year.

Paxen recently published a companion curriculum, GED Prep Xcelerator, that distills the program into a 10-title series of student books and workbooks, all of which closely align with the subject areas of the GED Tests. In 2010, Paxen will release an electronic version of the same GED preparation materials.

The real reward, Hilderley explained, can be found in the impact Xcelerator has on today’s learners. “A GED credential is empowering for an individual because it can open the door to many new and improved career opportunities. We’re dedicated to providing the skills and tools needed to attain such a life-transforming accomplishment.”

Based in Syracuse, N.Y., the Commission on Adult Basic Education supports the advancement of national and international adult education and literacy opportunities for all people.
