Samsung files complaint against Apple in France as legal battle continues

According to AFP, Samsung has filed a complaint against Apple in France, claiming that Apple violated three patents related to "mobile phone technology" used in the iPhone and iPad. A Samsung spokeswoman stated that the complaint does not involve the design of the Apple devices, only the technology used in them.

A source familiar with the complaint said it concerns three Samsung patents concerning UMTS, which is one type of so-called third generation mobile phone technology.

The complaint targets Apple's iPhone 3G and 3GS and iPhone 4 smartphone models, and first and second-generation iPads that are mobile phone capable, added the source.

The complaint was filed back in July and the first hearing is expected in December.

This new complaint is only the next in a long series of suits filed between Apple and Samsung. It all started when Apple sued Samsung (for the first time) back in April, claiming that the company stole several design ideas from the iPhone and iPad for use in its Galaxy line of tablets and smartphones. The battle has since seen several injunctions, counter lawsuits, and appeals from both sides.
