Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms Inc. META, outlined Thursday the tech company’s ambitious plans for advancing its artificial intelligence (AI) research and development.

Zuckerberg emphasized the integration of Meta’s AI efforts to support their long-term goals, which include building general intelligence, open-sourcing it responsibly, and making it universally accessible and useful.

  1. Integration of AI Research Efforts: Zuckerberg stated, “We’re bringing Meta’s two AI research efforts closer together to support our long-term goals of building general intelligence.”
  2. Focus on General Intelligence: The aim is to develop “full general intelligence” to power a range of services from AI assistants, tools for creators, to business applications. Zuckerberg highlighted the necessity for advances in various AI domains such as reasoning, planning, coding, memory, and other cognitive abilities.
  3. Commitment to Open Source: Emphasizing the importance of the technology, Zuckerberg mentioned, “This technology is so important… we should open source and make it as widely available as we responsibly can so that way everyone can benefit.”
  4. Massive Infrastructure Investment: Meta is ramping up its infrastructure substantially. Zuckerberg revealed, “By the end of this year, we’re going to have around 350,000 Nvidia Corp. NVDA’s H100s, or around 600,000 H100 equivalents of compute if you include other GPUs.”

Price Actions: Shares of Meta Platforms Inc. rose 2.1% to $376.13 on Thursday, hitting the highest since mid-September 2021. The social media giant is now just a 2% distance from its all-time highs reached on Sep. 1, 2021.
