UPDATE: Genesee & Wyoming Posts Downbeat Q3 Profit

posted a profit in the third quarter. Genesee & Wyoming swung to a quarterly profit of $65.7 million, or $1.16 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $19.6 million, or $0.47 per share. Excluding one-time items, it earned $1.19 per share. Its operating revenue surged 80% to $401.4 million from $222.7 million. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $1.22 per share on sales of $403.1 million. Genesee & Wyoming shares closed at $99.84 yesterday.
