Mid-Afternoon Market Update: Markets Cooling Off as Ruckus Rallies

Toward the end of trading Monday, the Dow traded up 0.38 percent to 15,129.28 while the NASDAQ surged 0.52 percent to 3,441.90. The S&P also rose, gaining 0.35 percent to 1,632.83. Top Headline
Time Warner's TWX Man of Steel, the relaunch of the Superman movie series, became the second-most successful movie of the year after the film made $113 million in its first weekend, behind only Iron Man 3. Equities Trading UPbr> DreamWorks Animation SKG DWA shot up 4.03 percent to $23.73 after Netflix NFLX signed a multi-year deal with the company. Shares of Ruckus Wireless RKUS were up as well, gaining 8.80 percent to $11.62 after news that the company was involved in a patent infringement suit against a smaller wireless carrier. Netflix NFLX was also up, gaining 6.64 percent to $228.20 after the company signed a multi-year deal with DreamWorks Animation. Equities Trading DOWNbr> Terex TEX was down, falling 8.10 percent to $29.17 after the company lowered its FY13 earnings view. Shares of Rexnord RXN were down 6.31 percent to $16.79 after the company launched a public offering of 11 million shares of its common stock by selling stockholder. Nevsun Resources NSU was also down, falling 8.38 percent to $3.17 after the company raised its 2013 gold production forecast. Commoditiesbr> In commodity news, oil traded down 0.04 percent to $97.81, while gold traded down 0.44 percent to $1,381.30. Silver traded down 0.88 percent Monday to $21.76, while copper fell 0.39 percent to $3.18. Eurozonebr> European shares were higher today. The Spanish Ibex Index rose 0.81 percent and the Italian FTSE MIB Index gained 0.26 percent. Meanwhile, the German DAX climbed 1.08 percent and the French CAC 40 gained 1.54 percent while U.K. shares rose 0.41 percent. Economicsbr> The Empire State manufacturing index surged to 7.8 in June, versus negative 1.4 in the earlier month. The NAHB builder-confidence index surged to 52 in June, versus 44 in May. However, economists were estimating the builder-sentiment index to increase to 45.
