Humana Inc HUM reported a 13% surge in its third-quarter net income and lifted its 2011 earnings view. Humana now projects 2011 earnings of $8.35 to $8.40 per share, versus its earlier forecast of $7.50 to $7.60 per share. Humana's quarterly earnings surged to $444.7 million, or $2.67 per share, up from $393.2 million, or $2.32 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Its revenue jumped to $9.3 billion from $8.35 billion. Humana's adjusted income came in at $2.54 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $2.03 per share on revenue of $9.26 billion. Armstrong World Industries Inc AWI reported a strong rise in its third-quarter earnings and cut its full-year sales forecast. Armstrong World now expects full-year sales of $2.85 billion to $2.9 billion, versus its earlier view of $2.9 billion to $3 billion. Armstrong World reported its quarterly profit at $52.5 million, or $0.89 per share, up from $24.6 million, or $0.42 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding items, Armstrong World's earnings came in at $0.86 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.84 per share. Cooper Tire & Rubber Co CTB reported a 61% decline in its third-quarter earnings. Cooper Tire reported its quarterly profit at $17.3 million, or $0.27 per share, versus $44.6 million, or $0.71 per share, in the year-ago period. Its sales surged 19% to $1.05 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.29 per share on revenue of $1.01 billion. Loews Corp L reported a rise in its third-quarter earnings. Loews reported its quarterly profit at $162 million, or $0.40 per share, up from $36 million, or $0.09 per share, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.66 per share. Its revenue dropped 7.1% to $3.44 billion. Loews' revenue from insurance premiums gained 5.3% to $1.73 billion. Trex Company Inc TREX reported narrower third-quarter loss. Trex projects current-quarter sales of around $50 to $55 million, versus analysts' estimates of $71 million. Trex reported a quarterly loss of $496,000, or $0.03 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $8.8 million, or $0.58 per share. Excluding certain items, Trex's profit came in at $28,000, versus a year-ago loss of $5 million. However, analysts were expecting a penny per-share loss. Trex's net sales climbed 12% to $67.9 million, versus the company's August view between $65 million and $70 million. Shaw Group Inc SHAW reported a wider FQ4 net loss on Monday. Shaw Group posted a quarterly loss of $90.3 million, or $1.25 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $24 million, or $0.28 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Excluding the Westinghouse segment, Shaw's loss came in at $0.44 per share. Shaw Group's shares outstanding dropped 15% to 72 million. Its revenue fell to $1.48 billion from $1.72 billion. CNA Financial Corp CNA swung to a profit in the latest quarter. CNA Financial reported a quarterly profit of $75 million, versus a year-ago loss of $140 million. Boardwalk Pipeline Partners LP BWP reported a 15% decline in its third-quarter profit. Boardwalk Pipeline reported a quarterly profit at $47.2 million, or 23 cents per unit, versus $55.8 million, or 28 cents per unit, in the year-ago period. Its operating revenue gained 4.4% to $268.9 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of 24 cents per unit on revenue of $276 million. Weingarten Realty Investors WRI swung to a Q3 loss on Monday. Weingarten Realty reported a quarterly loss of $33.2 million, versus a year-ago profit of $17.5 million. On a per-share basis, Weingarten Realty's loss, including preferred dividend payments, came in at $0.35 per share, versus earnings of $0.07 per share. Weingarten Realty's recurring funds from operations rose to 47 cents from 44 cents. Its revenue gained 3.3% to $138.6 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of 9 cents, FFO of 46 cents on $140 million in revenue. Honda Motor Co HMC reported a drop in its net profit for the second quarter. Honda's quarterly net profit dropped 56% to Y60.4 billion, from Y135.9 billion, in the year-ago quarter. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of Y62.6 billion. Harmony Gold Mining Co HMY reported a strong rise in its Q1 net profit. Harmony Gold's quarterly net profit climbed to 478 million rand, from ZAR102 million, in the year –ago period. Harmony Gold's gold output dropped to 328,162 troy ounces from 336,650 ounces. Barclays PLC BCS reported a 7% surge in its net profit for the first nine months. Barclays' net profit rose to 2.65 billion pounds ($4.25 billion), from 2.48 billion pounds, in the year-ago period. Its revenue gained 10% to 25.2 billion pounds. For the third quarter, Barclays' pretax profit surged to 2.4 billion pounds, from 327 million pounds, in the year-ago period. Barclays Capital's income, excluding one-time gain, dropped 15% to 2.25 billion pounds. Panasonic Corp PCRFF swung to a net loss for the second quarter. Panasonic posted a quarterly net loss of Y105.8 billion, versus net profit of Y31.0 billion, in the year-earlier period. Its operating profit dipped to Y42.0 billion, from Y85.2 billion. Its revenue declined 6% to Y2.076 trillion from Y2.207 trillion. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd MHVYF reported a strong rise in its net profit for the six months through September. Mitsubishi Heavy's net profit for the fiscal first half climbed to Y39.89 billion, from Y17.37 billion, in the year-ago period. Its operating profit climbed 13% to Y73.18 billion from Y64.57 billion. Mitsubishi Heavy's revenue dropped 4.7% to Y1.294 trillion from Y1.357 trillion. Asustek Computer Inc ASUUY reported upbeat net profit for the third quarter. Asustek Computer's net profit for the period came in at NT$4.68 billion, versus analysts' estimates of NT$4.40 billion. Asustek reported a Q3 net profit of NT$4.21 billion last year. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co HNHPF reported a 9% drop in its third-quarter net profit. Hon Hai Precision's net profit for the period declined to NT$19.10 billion, from NT$20.98 billion, in the year-ago period. Quanta Computer Inc QUCCF reported a 6.7% decline in its third-quarter net profit. Quanta Computer's net profit for the period dropped to NT$5.45 billion, from NT$5.84 billion. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of NT$5.28 billion. Japan Tobacco Inc JAPAY reported a 24% rise in its net profit for the fiscal second quarter. Japan Tobacco's quarterly net profit surged to Y73.1 billion, from Y59.1 billion, in the year-ago period. Its revenue fell 2.8% to Y689.3 billion from Y708.9 billion. Japan Tobacco's operating profit came in at Y121.0 billion. Toshiba Corp TOSYY reported a decline in its net profit for the fiscal second quarter. Toshiba's quarterly net profit dropped 19% to Y22.2 billion from Y27.35 billion. Daiichi Sankyo Co DSKYF reported a 39% drop in its net profit for the three months through September. Daiichi Sankyo's fiscal second-quarter net profit declined to Y11.7 billion, from Y19.1 billion, in the year-earlier period. Its operating profit dropped 36% to Y18.7 billion from Y29.0 billion. Daiichi Sankyo's quarterly revenue fell 7.5% to Y224.4 billion from Y242.5 billion. China Railway Group Ltd CWYCF reported a 49% drop in its third-quarter net profit. China Railway Group's quarterly net profit declined to CNY1.14 billion, from CNY2.22 billion, in the year-ago period, according to Chinese accounting standards. Its revenue gained 14% to CNY112.89 billion from CNY99.10 billion. Clariant AG CLZNY reported a 26% decline in its Q3 net profit. Clariant's quarterly net profit declined to CHF81 million, from CHF109 million, in the year-ago period. Its revenue rose to CHF1.87 billion from CHF1.71 billion. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of CHF34.2 million on revenue of CHF1.77 billion. PT International Nickel Indonesia PTNDY, or INCO, reported a decline in its January to September net profit. INCO's net profit for the period dropped to $319.9 million, from $328.5 million, in the year-ago period. INCO's revenue climbed to $1.0 billion from $947.1 million. INCO's average selling price gained to $19,323 per metric ton from $16,119 per metric ton.
