What's Going On With AMD Stock Friday?

Zinger Key Points
  • AMD's new Radeon RX 7600 XT debuts Jan 22, filling niche between RX 7700 XT & RX 7600.
  • RX 7600 XT boosts AMD's low-end lineup with up to 12GB memory, vying in gaming market.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc AMD appears set to release a new low-end graphics card, the Radeon RX 7600 XT, on January 22.

This new model aims to enhance performance in the lower end of the market, positioning itself between the existing RX 7700 XT and RX 7600.

This launch is timely as Nvidia Corp NVDA prepares to introduce more affordable options, including a cheaper RTX 3050 and Super versions of its RTX 4070, 4070 Ti, and 4080 models, with the RTX 4070 Super expected to launch around the same time, the Forbes reports.

Unlike the RX 7600, the RX 7600 XT may not feature a reference model with an AMD-designed cooler.

Instead, it will likely be available only with coolers from partner card manufacturers. This strategy differs from the RX 7600, which did have a reference model.

Rumors indicated that the RX 7600 XT will respond to the reliance on previous generation models, like the RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT, which are famous for their value in gaming.

The RX 7600 XT will likely offer modest performance improvements at a higher cost, a crucial factor in the budget-conscious lower end of the market.

The chip will have a memory upgrade over the RX 6600 XT, moving from 8GB to either 10GB or 12GB of GDDR6 memory, following the trend of needing more memory for modern gaming graphics cards, as per Forbes.

The RX 7600 XT might use a reduced-core-count version of AMD's Navi 32 GPU. The absence of non-XT variants of the RX 7800 or 7700 suggests that the RX 7600 XT could be the last launch in the Radeon 7000 series before AMD introduces its next-generation graphics cards.

This launch could coincide with AMD's announcements at the CES event in Las Vegas, indicating a busy start to the year for graphics card releases.

AMD stock gained 20.1% last month, versus Nvidia at 2.9%.

Price Action: AMD shares closed higher by 0.56% at $149.60 on Thursday.
