WATCH: Tesla's Cybertruck Astounds In 'Al Capone Style' Bulletproof Demo, Survives Tommy Gun Barrage

EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA on Thursday unveiled the video of its Cybertruck undergoing bulletproof testing during its delivery event at Gigafactory Texas.

What Happened: In October, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that a Tommy gun was emptied into the EV’s driver door ‘Al Capone style’, and yet no bullets penetrated the passenger compartment. Musk then said the video of the test would be released soon.

The video was eventually screened at the Cybertruck delivery event to the audience’s excitement. The video showed the Cybertruck being fired at with a 0.45 Caliber Tommy gun, a 9mm Glock and a 9mm MP5-SD.

The bullets dent the steel, but none of them penetrate the cabin, and the windows are mostly intact at the end with merely cracks to show for the test. At the end of the video, the Cybertruck is seen hauling a rival truck brought in for the purpose of testing and leaving the ground.

Why It Matters: Musk has previously noted that most other normal car or door skins are made of thin mild steel, which is there for aerodynamics and esthetics but carries no load. A bullet would easily penetrate these, making hiding behind doors during a bullet fight impossible, as shown in movies, he said.

Sharing the video on X on Thursday, Musk said that the Cybertruck exoskeleton of stainless steel is bulletproof to .45 caliber and 9mm handguns. The window glass, however, is not.

The vehicle, inspired by movies including ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘The Spy Who Loved Me,’ has previously been described by Musk as "an armored personnel carrier from the future."
