Tesla Inc TSLA has introduced the option for users of 2021 and older Model Ys to retrofit high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters.
What Happened: In response to the alarming statistics on air pollution-related fatalities, Tesla emphasizes the HEPA filter’s capability to ensure the “best possible cabin air quality” for drivers, surpassing standard automotive filters.
The efficiency of the HEPA filter was rigorously tested in various environments, including California freeways and major cities in China.
How It Works: Originally featured in the Model X and Model S, the HEPA filter was integrated into the Model Y starting in 2021.
For users who owned Model Ys predating this update, Tesla now offers the option to retrofit the HEPA filter through the Tesla app for approximately $300.
Why It Matters: While the Model Y now boasts the HEPA filter for enhanced air quality, the Model 3 remains the only Tesla vehicle without this feature.
Speculation among Model 3 buyers about the potential addition of the HEPA filter to the refreshed Model 3 has sparked interest, although the company has not officially confirmed these rumors.
