President Joe Biden celebrated his 81st birthday, all the while fending off doubts regarding his age and its potential effect on his capacity to efficiently serve.
What Happened: The President used his birthday celebration as an opportunity to jest about his age amidst ongoing political debates concerning his capability to serve effectively.
President Biden humorously addressed his age during the pre-Thanksgiving pardoning ceremony, proclaiming, “I just want you to know, it's difficult turning 60,” which elicited laughter from the audience.

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also defended the President, stating that the focus should be on his accomplishments rather than his age.
“It’s not about age, it’s about the president’s experience,” Jean-Pierre emphasized. Among the President’s notable achievements, she listed significant legislative successes, visits to active war zones in Ukraine and Israel, and initiatives on public health and climate change.
Why It Matters: There has been an ongoing debate around Biden’s age and his potential for another White House term. A poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research revealed that 77% of U.S. adults, including 69% of Democrats, believe Biden to be too old to effectively serve another term.
Biden, however, remains resolute amidst these concerns. “They’re going to see a race, and they’re going to judge whether or not I have it or don’t have it,” he confidently stated regarding the electorate’s perception.
