WhatsApp Now Lets You Login With Your Email Address: Here's How It Works

Meta Platforms Inc.’s META WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature that allows users to verify their accounts via email. This new update comes as an alternative to the SMS verification method.

What Happened: After successful beta testing, the WhatsApp email verification feature has been made available to all users. This feature is rolling out to WhatsApp for iPhone users with the version 23.24.70 update, as spotted by WABetaInfo.

The new feature is not intended to eliminate SMS verification but to provide an alternative for users who may not have cellular coverage but need to access their WhatsApp accounts.

It is worth noting that the linked email address can only be used to log in to WhatsApp – other users will not be able to find you using your email address. They will still have to use your phone number.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp rolled out its new macOS app, entirely rebuilt for Mac computers.

In October, the company introduced the option for users to operate two WhatsApp accounts on a single device and added Android support for passkeys.

Here’s How WhatsApp Email Verification Works

Before you start using WhatsApp email verification, you will first have to add your email address to your WhatsApp account and verify it.

With the latest WhatsApp update installed on your iPhone, follow these steps:

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap your profile picture on the top right.
  2. Tap the Profile button.
  3. Tap Email Address and enter your details.

Once done, the next time you try to log in to your WhatsApp account and don't have a cellular signal available, you can use your email address to receive a one-time password and authenticate it.

It's also a useful option if you've lost your primary phone and don't have your SIM card.

Why It Matters: This new feature is part of WhatsApp’s wider efforts to offer alternative access methods for users who may face temporary difficulties receiving the 6-digit code via SMS.
