Shorting Stocks To Short Shorts: Tesla's Cheeky 'S3XY' Fashion Option Now Redeemable With Referral Credits

EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA customers can now purchase ‘short shorts’ by redeeming their referral credits.

What Happened: Customers with 1,469 referral credits can redeem it for short shorts made from red satin available in sizes ranging from extra small to extra large. The shorts feature a gold Tesla T logo on the front and ‘S3XY’ written across the back, with each letter standing for the name of a Tesla model.

“Tesla Short Shorts provide exceptional comfort all day from opening to closing bell,” says Tesla.

Why It Matters: Musk first teased the short shorts in 2018. It was introduced about two years later in 2020 as a cheeky response to skeptics who had bet against the company's success in the stock market. The shorts were priced at $69.420 per pair, a thinly veiled reference to the $420 price point at which Musk had wanted to take the automaker private in 2018. The shorts garnered significant attention and quickly sold out.

Tesla shares closed at $210.50 per share on Thursday and is up 94.7% year-to-date.
