Obama's Former Strategist Expresses Doubt On Biden's Re-Election Run: 'Very Late To Change Horses'

Democratic political strategist, David Axelrod, is questioning the viability of President Joe Biden’s re-election bid.

What Happened: Axelrod voiced his concerns over Biden’s re-election campaign on the social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter. He proposed that Biden should reassess if persisting in the race serves his best interest or that of the nation, reported Politico.

On X, Axelrod said that it was “very late to change horses” and that a lot “will happen in the next year that no one can predict.”

Axelrod, chiefly known for orchestrating Barack Obama’s triumphant presidential runs in 2008 and 2012, was responding to recent polls from The New York Times and Siena. These surveys highlighted Biden’s struggle in pivotal electoral states against ex-President Donald Trump.

Despite discouraging figures, Axelrod noted that Biden’s team remains steadfast in their determination to continue his campaign. He also mentioned that this situation could potentially cause unease within the Democratic Party.

Why It Matters: Axelrod’s concerns come on the heels of a poll, reported by Benzinga, that shows Biden trailing Trump in important swing states.

Yet another recent poll illustrated an even matchup between the two former presidents for the 2024 election.

Earlier, Benzinga reported that Biden was considering increasing his advertising efforts due to concerns about polling in swing states. These efforts come amidst growing apprehensions regarding Biden’s age and policy decisions, particularly in the economic sphere.
