Microsoft's Satya Nadella On AI Future: 'We Must Not Lose Control'

Microsoft’s MSFT CEO, Satya Nadella, recently shared his views on the company’s future, emphasizing a focus on artificial intelligence (AI).

As reported by Business Insider, Nadella was speaking in Berlin at Axel Springer’s headquarters after receiving the 2023 Axel Springer Award.

While gaming is crucial, Nadella sees the most significant potential in AI. He compared AI’s transformative power to that of cloud computing, stating it could revolutionize the way we create documents, consume information, and work. According to Nadella, Microsoft’s forthcoming AI Copilot could dramatically shift productivity and communication.

However, he also believes that some amount of global governance of AI will be required where a global organization would need to step in. This would also require “figuring out common ground on governance.”

“The way I look at it, a little bit of competition is what will be there. But if there is going to be a successful, let’s call it a “regime of control” over AI, then we will need some global cooperation like the IAEA,” he said.

Nadella highlighted the need to ensure AI deployment does not go beyond human control.

“You have to be very, very conscious of how you deploy what we have today in ways that human agency, and humanity, is in the loop. And we must not lose control.”
