Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform X, extended an intriguing offer to the renowned online encyclopedia Wikipedia.
What Happened: Musk's proposal, which comes with a hefty price tag, is both audacious and reflective of his characteristic style.
In a post on X on Sunday, Musk declared that he was ready to donate a staggering $1 billion to Wikipedia. However, the generous offer came with a catch: Wikipedia must rebrand itself as "Dickipedia" for a year, he said.
"I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia," Musk posted, referencing an earlier Wikipedia post that sought donations from its users.
Musk's jesting suggestion for the name change, he claims, is "in the interests of accuracy," hinting at his reservations about Wikipedia's content reliability.
When journalist Ed Krassenstein proposed that Wikipedia could accept the funds and later revert to its original name, Musk clarified that the name change should persist for at least one year.
In another post, Musk also asked why the Wikimedia Foundation wanted "so much money."
