Trump, GOP Congressman Say Mark Milley Deserves 'Death' For 'Treason' That Could Have Led To 'War' Between China, US

Former President Donald Trump and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), accusing the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley of treason, suggested he should face execution.

What Happened: In a social media post on his Truth Social site, Trump accused Milley of making unauthorized phone calls to Chinese counterparts towards the end of his administration.

Trump wrote, “If the Fake News reporting is correct, [Milley] was actually dealing with China to give them a heads up on the thinking of the President of the United States.”

"This is an act so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been death!"

"A war between China and the United States could have been the result of this treasonous act."

Meanwhile, Gosar alleged in a newsletter that Milley had collaborated with then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to undermine Trump, and accused him of delaying National Guard assistance to the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot.

"In a better society, quislings like the strange sodomy-promoting General Milley would be hung," Gosar wrote while referring to Milley, a four-star general with more than four decades of army service, a “traitor.”

Why It Matters: Milley had previously testified to Congress in 2021 that his communications with Chinese officials were aimed at de-escalation, assuring them that the U.S. was not planning to attack.

"My task at that time was to de-escalate," Milley told the Senate Armed Services Committee back then.

"My message again was consistent: Stay calm, steady, and de-escalate. We are not going to attack you."

When asked about Trump’s comments on Monday night by MSNBC's Jen Psaki, Pelosi said, “To engage in language like that should be something that would eliminate somebody as a prospect for any public office,” CNBC reported.
