Alphabet Inc.‘s GOOG GOOGL Google Pixel Watch users have found themselves in a quandary due to Google’s lack of a screen replacement policy for the device. This has stirred up debates on electronic waste and Google’s inconsistent repairability policy for its Pixel range of devices.

What Happened: Pixel Watch owners have discovered that Google offers no screen replacement policy for this particular device, as reported by Android Police. This policy starkly contrasts Google’s established repairability stance for Pixel phones and the Pixel Tablet. This discrepancy has ignited queries about why the smartwatch has been left out, potentially contributing to the problem of electronic waste.

Several Reddit threads and complaints on Google’s support page highlight the company’s refusal to replace cracked screens. The Verge quoted a customer’s interaction with Google support, revealing that there are no dedicated repair or service centers for the Pixel Watch.

“At this moment, we don't have any repair option for the Google Pixel Watch. If your watch is damaged, you can contact the Google Pixel Watch Customer Support Team to check your replacement options,” a spokesperson for Google told The Verge.

This absence of repairability is striking, given Google’s repairability policy for Pixel smartphones. Since last year, customers could buy replacement parts for these devices from iFixit. The Pixel Tablet also recently obtained official replacement parts and its repair guide from iFixit.

Why It Matters: The lack of a screen replacement option for the Pixel Watch is noteworthy, especially considering the pricey, but cusotmer friendly repair options Apple Inc. AAPL offers.
