Donald Trump Reportedly Quietly Supporting House GOP Member's Impeachment Inquiry Against Biden

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly privately backing the impeachment of President Joe Biden, orchestrated by the House Republicans.

What Happened: Trump has been quietly advising the House GOP weekly, including talks with Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, on Biden’s impeachment inquiry, Politico reported, citing anonymous sources.

Stefanik, a fervent Trump supporter and the first GOP leader to publicly advocate for impeachment has been in regular contact with the former president.

Trump also met with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a loyalist to both Trump and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., where they discussed impeachment on Sunday, according to a source.

Although Trump has refrained from commenting publicly on his involvement, he has previously expressed his support for Biden’s impeachment on Truth Social. "Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION. THEY DID IT TO US."

Why It Matters: Speaker McCarthy on Tuesday initiated an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, responding to pressure from conservatives. This came after Trump’s public call for House Republicans to impeach Biden or face the consequences in the next elections.

The impeachment inquiry against President Biden, driven by unverified claims that Biden financially benefited from his son's overseas business activities, has been a contentious issue. McCarthy's decision to initiate the inquiry came under the pressure of conservative hardliners threatening to oust him from his Speaker position.
