Blue Bubbles On Android? MKBHD Tells Two Ways Non-iPhone Users Can Use iMessage

Marques Brownlee, widely recognized for his tech insights, introduced Android (operating system developed by Alphabet Inc. GOOG GOOG users to two unconventional methods to access iMessage, a feature traditionally reserved for Apple Inc. AAPL owners.

What Happened: Today, Android and Apple devices increasingly share similarities, but the elusive allure of iMessage has remained an exclusive domain of iPhone users.

The distinct “blue bubbles” accompanying iMessage texts have left Android users yearning to taste this Apple-exclusive messaging experience.

However, Brownlee has now shared not one but two methods that can bring iMessage to Android.

The first method, AirMessage, is relatively known in the tech realm.

It offers a pathway to iMessage on Android but requires the presence of a Mac in the equation. Users must maintain an active Apple ID on the Mac, which acts as a server to relay iMessages to their Android devices.

The catch here is that your Mac must always remain connected to the internet for this workaround to function seamlessly.

A second option is an invite-only app called Beeper

The app unifies all your messaging needs, including text messages, WhatsApp, and, intriguingly, iMessage.

While this solution sounds cool, Brownlee said it also raises skepticism regarding the underlying processes, as it essentially requires users to log into their Apple ID on a remote Mac situated in some server farm.

Therefore, whether you find this solution appealing largely hinges on your comfort level with such an arrangement.

Why It’s Important: Google has been pushing hard to make RCS, a next-generation text messaging standard, the norm for messaging. It even pressured Apple to adopt RCS.

Apple has vehemently opposed it, with CEO Tim Cook saying that he’d “love to convert” Android owners to iPhone users
