Trump 'Not as Dumb as I Said,' Says Ex-President's Alienated Lawyer — He Realizes Danger That Rudy Giuliani Poses

Donald Trump‘s ex-attorney, Michael Cohen, expressed disbelief at his former employer’s continued reluctance to provide financial support for Rudy Giuliani‘s legal expenses.

What Happened: Cohen, Speaking to CNN’s Brianna Keilar, said What I do find interesting is that Rudy went to Mar-a-Lago with [lawyer] Bob Costello in order to make a plea for money” and "Donald is not putting up a dollar of his own money for Rudy’s benefit.”

Giuliani was indicted alongside 18 other individuals earlier this week. After his arrest, he was booked at the Fulton County jail. The indictment was tied to an alleged racketeering plot. Giuliani, who is facing financial constraints, has even put his Manhattan three-bedroom flat up for sale to raise capital.

According to media reports, Trump has decided against personally financing the legal costs for his one-time attorney, Giuliani. Instead, Trump will host a $100,000 ticket fundraiser to amass the required funds. "he’s going to host a fundraiser and ask other people to fund Rudy’s legal fees, as opposed to, again, Donald doing it,” Cohen said.

“Donald, at least, finally, smartened up a little bit and he realized the danger that Rudy could potentially put him in.”

“And, so, at least he’s doing something, so maybe he’s not as dumb as I said the other night…”

This came after Cohen on Monday gave Trump a complimentary legal counsel on CNN, saying it was unwise to abandon any attorney without support after their assistance.

"Donald is an idiot. Let me be very clear when it comes to paying money, he is truly an idiot. He has not learned yet that the last person you want — three people you don’t want to throw under the bus like that, your lawyer, your doctor, and your mechanic," he said on Monday.

Cohen recalled that during the time when Trump was covering his legal expenses, they engaged in a shared defense agreement. When Trump terminated the agreement, he provided Cohen with strong motivation to disclose everything to the prosecutors and be completely transparent.
