Mark Zuckerberg Shares 'Actual Footage' Of Him Building Threads For Web — And The Internet Thinks It's Fake

Meta Platforms Inc. META CEO Mark Zuckerberg has shared "actual footage" of himself building Threads for the web, and while some people don't think the picture is real — it actually seems to be from his time at Harvard University.

What Happened: On Tuesday, Meta launched the desktop version of Threads, its latest social media app that was dubbed as a “Twitter killer.” When Threads debuted in July, it was exclusively available as a text-based platform through smartphone apps.

Subsequently, in a nostalgic twist, Zuckerberg posted a throwback photo of his younger self in a college dorm room, accompanied by the caption, “Actual footage of me building Threads for the web. Rolling out over the next few days.”

Many netizens couldn’t help but question the image’s authenticity, suggesting it was a relic from his Harvard University days when he initially launched “The Facebook.”

They also compared Threads with Elon Musk’s Twitter, now rebranded as X, applauding the Meta app for its refreshing take on social media.

Meanwhile, Musk also took to X, the social media platform he acquired for $44 billion last year and later rebranded to take a sly dig at Meta CEO.

Why It’s Important: Launching the desktop version of Threads is a significant move for Meta as it now expands the platform’s reach beyond mobile devices. Users can now post, browse their feeds, and interact with content on the desktop version.

While this version is not yet available for everyone, the company said it will gradually roll out this week.

For the unversed, Threads initially enjoyed a meteoric rise, boasting a staggering 100 million users within the first five days of its launch. However, just three weeks later, the number of daily active users plummeted dramatically, from a peak of 49 million to a mere 10.3 million, according to Similarweb data.
