Democratic Presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., initially showed support for a 15-week federal abortion ban, but retracted his statement soon after, citing a misunderstanding, reported Politico.
Kennedy was at the Iowa State Fair when he was asked about his stance on abortion. He responded that he believed a woman should have the right to choose to abort within the first three months. He further stated that he would sign a federal ban on abortion after 15 or 21 weeks of pregnancy if he were elected president.
However, his campaign later clarified that Kennedy had misunderstood the question in “a crowded, noisy exhibit hall.”
His campaign further stated, “Mr. Kennedy's position on abortion is that it is always the woman's right to choose. He does not support legislation banning abortion."
In June, during a town hall in New Hampshire, Kennedy had identified himself as “pro-choice” and expressed his support for legal abortion.
