Joe Manchin Skips White House Event As Senator Considers 2024 Presidential Bid Against Biden

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) will not attend a White House event next week, hinting at a potential presidential run in 2024 against Joe Biden.

According to NBC News, Manchin’s decision to skip the event, celebrating the first anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, signals a growing tension between the conservative Democrat and the Biden administration.

Manchin, who played a crucial role in drafting the law, is considering an independent run for presidency in 2024.

“I’ve been thinking about that for quite some time,” he told a West Virginia radio host, expressing he might change his party affiliation from Democrat to Independent.

A recent dinner conversation between Manchin and Biden’s aide, Steve Ricchetti, has heightened White House’s concerns about Manchin’s moves, two sources with knowledge of the relationship between them told NBC News. The absence of Manchin at the upcoming event is seen as significant, despite a senior White House official downplaying its importance.

Manchin’s political ambitions are increasingly becoming a source of concern for Biden’s administration. The senator vowed to “continue to fight the Biden administration's unrelenting efforts to manipulate the law to push their radical climate agenda.”
