Zinger Key Points

  • Elon Musk currently subscribes to 77 accounts on Twitter. A look at who they are and how much he's paying.

Billionaire Elon Musk is the owner and CEO of social media platform Twitter. Since taking over the platform, Musk has laid out several strategic priorities, including more aggressive monetization efforts. Here’s a look at one of these monetary pursuit endeavors.

What Happened: In April, Musk rebranded “Super Follows” on Twitter to “Subscriptions,” which allow Twitter users the ability to monetize themselves through upgrades for their followers.

Musk previously said that Twitter will take a 10% cut of monetization from users after 12 months, while at present, the entirety of subscription earnings is channeled to users from Twitter.

The Twitter CEO may have accidentally unveiled how many subscribers he has last month with a screenshot showing that Musk had 24,700 subscribers paying him $4 per month. This would translate to monthly earnings of $98,800 for Musk based solely on his Twitter subscribers.

Musk has encouraged others on Twitter to launch subscriptions to monetize themselves, and has even personally subscribed to some users.

Earlier in the year, Musk became the most followed individual on Twitter, boasting a massive following of 140.9 million people. Musk himself follows a modest number of 309 individuals and accounts on the platform.

Twitter now shows how many people each user subscribes to, which means we can track that Musk subscribes to 77 accounts.
