Instagram Now Shows If You're Chatting With Business, Personal Or Creator Accounts

Meta Platforms Inc.’s META Instagram now offers tags like “business chat.”

What Happened: Social media expert Ahmed Ghanem posted a screenshot on Twitter saying Instagram now shows users if they are chatting with a business, personal or any other account type.

Personal accounts are the only type of account that can be private. In contrast, professional accounts, which cover both business and creator accounts, are public. Professional accounts also receive Instagram Insights about their followers.

Why It’s Important: The update allows users to communicate with business accounts, especially if they intend to know more about the business, shopping queries or dining arrangements (in case the account belongs to an F&B service).

Instagram already allows businesses to connect with similar entities, interact with followers and leverage hashtags to get discovered by new customers, but this update focuses more on the users.

Last month also, Instagram introduced new improvements and additions to its web interface that show more pronounced and clearer touch/click targets.
