Indian Markets Rise; BSE Sensex Up Over 50 Points


Indian stock markets traded higher on Thursday. The S&P BSE Sensex gained 58 points, or 0.21 percent at 27584.99. The 30-share index touched a low of 27,446.31 in the morning trade. The Nifty50 rose 0.26 percent to 8536.05, reaching a low of 8,489.60 in the morning trade.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index rose 0.43 percent, while the BSE S&P Smallcap Index gained 0.46 percent.

The Indian rupee rose 1 paise at 66.71 versus the U.S. dollar.

Hero MotoCorp on Wednesday posted a 3.64 percent gain in sales to 6,63,153 units for October, while TVS Motor Company’s sales rose 12 percent to 3,08,690 units in October.

The Caixin China services PMI increased to 52.4 in October, versus a reading of 52.0 in September.

The U.S. Federal Open Market Committee kept interest rates unchanged. US stock markets closed lower overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 0.43 percent, the S&P500 index dropping 0.65 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite slipping 0.93 percent.

US WTI crude futures on the NYMEX gained 0.88 percent to trade at $45.74 per barrel.

Top market movers among the BSE index are as follows

  • Shares MPS Infotecnics Ltd. rose 50 percent to 0.15 INR.
  • Transwarranty Finance Ltd. shares surged 20 percent to 12.95 INR.
  • Shriram EPC Ltd. rose about 20 percent to 31.10 INR.
  • Metkore Alloys & Industries Ltd. shares gained around 20 percent to 3.05 INR.

 

  • B C Power Controls Ltd. dropped around 20 percent to 64.55 INR.
  • Picturehouse Media Ltd. fell around 10 percent to 5.96 INR.
  • CIL Securities Ltd. slipped 10 percent to 20.30 INR.
  • Veejay Lakshmi Engineering Works Ltd. shares declined 8 percent to 48.05 INR.
