Worst Performing Industries For October 12, 2016


The Dow rose 0.04 percent to 18,136.19, while the NASDAQ composite index slipped 0.06 percent to 5,243.88. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.11 percent to 2,138.98.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Networking & Communication Devices: This industry slipped 2 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Palo Alto Networks Inc PANW, which fell 2.8 percent following a profit warning from Fortinet.
  • Cement: This industry declined 1.1 percent by 11:00 am with Cemex SAB de CV (ADR) CX moving down 1.5 percent. Cemex shares have surged 13.17 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 5.91 percent in the same period.
  • Residential Construction: This industry fell 1 percent by 11:00 am ET. Nutanix Inc NTNX shares dropped 4.2 percent in today's trading.
  • Security Software & Services: The industry dropped 0.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Vicon Industries, Inc. VII, which declined 9 percent.
