Worst Performing Industries For September 2, 2016


The Dow rose 0.48 percent to 18,506.99, while the NASDAQ composite index rose 0.55 percent to 5,255.70. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.46 percent to 2,180.89.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • General Entertainment: This industry slipped 3.2 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Carnival plc (ADR) CUK, which fell 5.1 percent. Carnival shares have dropped 3.28 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 11.39 percent in the same period.
  • Semiconductor- Memory Chips: This industry declined 0.7 percent by 11:00 am with SemiLEDs Corporation LEDS moving down 2 percent. SemiLEDs shares have climbed 37.61 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 11.39 percent in the same period.
  • Drug Manufacturers - Other: This industry fell 0.6 percent by 11:00 am ET. Cipher Pharmaceuticals Inc CPHR shares dropped 2.5 percent in today's trading. Cipher Pharmaceuticals named Stephen L. Lemieux as Chief Financial Officer and Secretary.
  • Long Distance Carriers: The industry dropped 0.2 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Elephant Talk Communications Corp ETAK, which declined 1.1 percent.
